シャーロット・メーソンの子育て論
教育ママのニュースなどを読んで、子育ての成功というのは、子供たちを有名大学に入れること、あるいは学力が高く、社会で成功する人材に育てることだという印象を受けて非常に違和感があったのですが、たまたまシャーロット・メーソンのこんな名言を聞いて納得しました。
The habits of the child produce the character of the man . . .every day, every hour, the parents are either passively or actively forming those habits in their children upon which, more than upon anything else, future character and conduct depend. ~ Charlotte Mason
“To keep a child in this habit of the thought of God – so that to lose it, for even a little while, is like coming home after an absence and finding his mother out – is a very delicate part of a parent’s work” ~ Charlotte Mason
Look on education as something between the child’s soul and God. Modern Education tends to look on it as something between the child’s brain and the standardized test. ~ Charlotte Mason
一言で言うと、子育てというのは、よい習慣をつけさせる（勤勉・誠実・従順など）こと、特に神様をいつも想う習慣をつけることが一番大切であり、脳の発達や受験だけにはとどまらないものである、ということでしょうか。
